The sloping heads tapered bodies group is comprised of the families Lethrinidae (emperors), Lutjanidae (snappers), Nemipteridae (spinecheeks and whiptails), and Lobotidae (triplefins). Also included here are the grunts, which are Western Atlantic members of the family Haemulidae. Most of the species within these families exhibit a body shape characterized by a sloped head and tapered body.
